Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A dome top travel trunk, also known as a barrel top or camel back trunk, is a 19th-century luggage piece featuring an arched lid designed to prevent other baggage from being stacked on top of it during steamship or railway transit.

These trunks were typically constructed from a pine or hardwood frame covered with embossed sheet metal, canvas, or leather, reinforced with bentwood slats, cast iron corner brackets, and heavy latches.

Authentic period pieces feature heavy cast iron or brass hardware, stamped patent dates on locks, wood-slat construction, original paper or fabric linings, and signs of genuine age such as surface oxidisation on metal fittings.

A dome top trunk serves well as a characterful accent piece placed against a hallway wall, situated in a living room alcove, or positioned at the foot of a bed to provide both visual texture and functional storage.

Dust the exterior with a dry, soft microfibre cloth, apply specialised wax polish to wood slats and iron fittings to prevent rust, and keep the piece in a dry environment with controlled humidity to preserve the internal lining.
