Originally for storing specimens, the drawers would have likely had a glass cover over them.
It is in good original condition with a lovely aged patina. It has picked up some wear on the top and there are some stains, scratches and marks (see photos) but overall it displays very well and the mahogany has a mellow slightly faded colour. The drawers all open and close smoothly and are very clean and tidy inside.
