Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Gustavian low stools originated in late 18th-century Sweden during the reign of King Gustav III, incorporating elements of French Rococo and Neoclassical design. Crafted to maximize reflected light in Nordic homes, these low-profile seating pieces featured pale paint finishes, carved aprons, and upholstered cushion tops.

Traditional Swedish stools were constructed using native softwoods, predominantly pine or lime wood, which were primed and coated with milk paint or chalk-based paints. The structural padding historically consisted of natural materials such as horsehair, jute webbing, and raw wool.

Authentic period pieces display distinct layering in their painted surfaces, showing natural wear on raised carvings and edges where undercoats or bare timber are exposed. Construction markers include pegged mortise and tenon joinery, hand-planed underside surfaces, and subtle asymmetry in hand-carved details.

A low Swedish bench can function as an upholstered coffee table central to a seating arrangement, placed at the foot of a bed, or positioned beneath a window sill. Its pale colour palette and low height complement contemporary neutral schemes and muted Scandinavian decor.

To preserve a historical painted finish, dust the timber regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth without commercial aerosol polishes. Keep the item in a stable environment with controlled humidity to prevent the timber frame from expanding or cracking.
