Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A bonheur du jour is a specialised style of ladies writing desk that originated in France during the 18th century, comprising a small table combined with a raised back section containing cupboards or drawers.

Traditional Boulle work incorporates cut brass inlay set into natural tortoiseshell veneer, backed onto a wood frame and finished with cast ormolu or gilt-bronze protective mounts.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display hand-chiselled brass inlay, thick hand-cut tortoiseshell veneers, cast gilt-bronze mounts with chased surface details, and natural timber shrinkage along joinery.

Position the cabinet as a standalone statement piece against a modern neutral backdrop, pairing the intricate brass scrollwork with simple contemporary lighting and architectural lines.

Keep the furniture in an environment with stable relative humidity, clean surfaces using a dry microfibre cloth, and keep away from direct heat sources to avoid brass lifting from the shell substrate.
