Quality Georgian Gillows Mahogany Antique Secretaire Press Cupboard

This Quality 18th Century Georgian Mahogany Antique Secretaire Press Cupboard dates from ca. 1770 and is attributed to Gillows of Lancaster due to the design and superb quality figured Mahogany timbers used in its construction. It has a moulded cornice above two beautifully figured doors with moulded edges and the interior has four sliding linen trays. The lower section has a large top drawer, that pulls out and folds down using the original brass mechanism. The interior has a green baize writing surface, several small drawers and pigeon holes, a central cupboard and two secret concealed book drawers. Below are three cock-beaded drawers with figured fronts and brass handles. This quality antique press stands on shaped bracket feet, splits into two sections for removal and has aged to a rich Mahogany shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
