The cupboard boasts an elegant protruding canopy above a solid polished boarded top. The cupboard is divided into two sections; the top section comprises a cupboard with two compartments; the top compartment is revealed by opening the two doors, and comprises a single shelf with generous storage space below. Opening the fold-down horizontal hatch, which retains its original working lock and a working key, accesses the lower compartment in the top section. The doors and hatch to the top section incorporate the rotating latches to stop them accidentally swinging open, as well as the original turned wooden handles. The doors to the cupboard boast two lovely raised and fielded Gothic shaped Arcadian panels. The front corners of the top section are adorned with quarter-columns with carved spiral detail. The bottom section of the cupboard houses seven working drawers, arranged in an apparent three-over-two configuration, however the central row of drawers also includes a secret drawer, disguised as part of the frame between the two main drawers. This secret drawer is perfect for the storage of valuables, such as money or jewellery. The drawers are oak lined, constructed with hand dovetailed joints, retaining their original turned knobs. The cupboard features the original polished oak top, inset side panels and original backboards constructed with very good quality wide planks. The cupboard stands on the original Georgian bracket feet. The cupboard has good proportions, which makes it a sought-after size; it was designed to fit into farmhouses with low ceilings. The cupboard dismantles into two sections for easy transport and access into the house.

Condition Report:

This item is in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and frame, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. All doors and hinges are in good working order; they close comfortably. The doors retain the original hinges and steel working locks (with key). All doors and drawers boast the original wooden knobs, which is rare to see. The bracket feet and backboards are original too, along with the secrete compartment. The drawers run smoothly and close flush to the frame. The item is solid in joint and stands firm on the ground (it does not wobble).
