Tea caddies emerged in the 17th century when tea was an expensive imported commodity, necessitating secure containers often fitted with locks to store the precious leaves.

These items were typically fabricated from sterling silver using techniques such as hammering, casting, chasing, and repousse work, often featuring fitted lids and interior foil or wooden linings.

Authenticity is verified by examining hallmarks for assay office marks, makers marks, and date letters, alongside observing the natural wear patterns and hand-wrought construction details.

This piece can be placed on a sideboard or mantelpiece as a focal point, integrating historic metallic textures into a curated modern living space.

Preserve the metal by dusting with a soft cloth and using specialized silver polish sparingly only when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials that can damage chased surface details.
