Spectacular Large Pair of French Late C19th Louis Xvi Style 'Alabastro Fiorito' Marble and Ormolu Bronze Mounted Vases.

19th century
Description

Spectacular large pair of late C19th French Louis XVI style 'alabastro fiorito' marble and ormolu bronze mounted vases.

High quality large-scale pair of marble vases with stunning figured 'alabaster fiorito' ovoid bodies . Mounted with classical design ormolu bronze rams' head design handles with finely chased detail. The bodies mounted with cast ormolu foral swags and raised upon socle supports onto square block bases all mounted with conforming ormolu decorations .

The detachable lids with pierced pastille burner style apertures and surmounted by ornately-cast 'fruiting berry' finials. When removed , the vases each inset with a shallow polished bronze bowl .

The highly-figured marble of 'alabastro fiorito' (translating as 'flowering' or 'blooming' relating to the floral style qualities of the stone) found near Hierapolis in Phrygia , Turkey ,has always been highly-prized and sought after from times of antiquity. The Romans in particular, greatly valued it's striations and decorative value for use in architecture and objects of virtue, and they knew it as 'marmor hierpolitanum'.

In excellent original condition with no damage or repairs.

Striking large-scale vases in a vivid and richly-coloured rare marble.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
