Yolanda Gray Antiques has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The doors open to reveal five original mahogany lined and hand dovetailed slides (drawers), which where designed to store all manner of clothes or bedding. Below, the two large drawers are constructed with fine hand dovetail joints, and the drawer linings and bottoms are constructed from solid mahogany. The drawer fronts incorporate later top quality period brass swan neck handles; with the original key escutcheons and original working lever locks (including working key). The drawer fronts are also decorated with further ebony string inlay. The press terminates on its original top quality bracket feet (which is rare to see, as these are usually replaced with changing fashions or get damaged over time). The linen press also features the original backboards. The linen press dismantles into two sections (top and base) allowing easy access up the staircase into the bedroom. The cornice can also be unscrewed if necessary to gain access up tight stairs or through narrow doorways.

This is a sought after linen press due to its quality construction using fine Cuban figured mahogany timbers. The linen press is designed in the classic Georgian style, with simple, pronounced clean lines and a focus on symmetry.

Condition Report:
This item is in good condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the frame (see photos), but nothing significant considering its age. Both doors close and lock comfortably. There are no warps or splits to the figured mahogany doors. The doors lock using the original brass door latches, along with a working lever lock (with working key). The linen press retains five original mahogany lined slides (drawers) and two large mahogany lined drawers below; all of which comfortably slide out and close flush to the frame. The drawers retain their original working brass level locks (with working key) and original decorative key escutcheons. The drawer fronts feature later old period brass swan neck handles, which are of very good quality. Importantly, the entire ebony string inlay decoration is intact and in good condition. The press terminates on its original top quality bracket feet. The linen press also features the original backboards.
