Large World Class Japanese Mixed Metal Vase by Suzuki Chokichi (Kaka)

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this staggering quality bronze and mixed metal vase by the world renowned Meiji period metal worker Suzuki Chokichi (1848-1919) , his art name Kaka , this large , heavy and imposing bronze vase has been painstakingly hand planished to create an almost Iron like finish to the body, the artist has captured a bird flying across Autumnal coloured Flora in his usual high quality manner , the bird has been incredibly finely chiselled as well as being inlaid with various mixed metals and alloys to create a highly decorative finish, the predominant feature on the vase is the onlaid Hydrangea , each head has been formed from dozens of hand cast solid silver petals, these are then pinned with gold staymen with a painstaking degree of detail, the artist has chosen to use Butterflies and Moths to decorate the shoulders of the vase , many artists including one of my favourites , the Nogawa factory, have tried to imitate the Autumn Floral detail and Butterflies of Kaka's work , but without great success , these are undoubtedly some of the finest quality onlaid mixed metal butterflies you could ever wish to see !!! , the neck of the vase is surmounted with a silver band while the underside carries the artists signature in an oval six character seal , an incredibly scarce opportunity to acquire what in my opinion is still a significantly undervalued item in todays marketplace.

Note: Suzuki Chokichi is recognised as one of the leading metal workers of the Meiji period , he was instrumental in running the Kiritsu Kosho Kaisha (first manufacturing company) for the Japanese government between 1873-1891 , his works are now scarce and thus highly prized by collectors worldwide, most of the larger pieces can now only be found in museums and important collections , including the V&A and the Dr Naseer Khalili collection of Meiji period works of art .
