Grand Tour bronzes were typically cast in solid or hollow bronze using lost-wax or sand casting methods. They were finished with applied chemical patinas ranging from dark brown to verdigris green to replicate aged classical antiquities.

Authentic nineteenth-century castings display hand-chased surface details, traditional threaded assembly visible beneath the base, and a natural patina showing age-appropriate wear. They generally lack modern machine marks or synthetic lacquer coatings.
