Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian standard lamp dates from 1880 and sits in the gentleman's library style. The piece takes the form of a telescopic standard lamp constructed from brass and fabric, showing a brass finish with a cream shade. The structure includes a tripod base, a telescopic column, turned brass fittings, and a fringed shade. It measures 110 cm high, 28 cm wide, and 12 cm deep. Placement suits an empty corner in a home today. The lamp provides a functional lighting option for sitting rooms, studies, or libraries, pairing well with traditional interiors and classic room layouts. The design allows for adjustable height settings to suit various seating arrangements and spatial requirements.

FAQs

Designed during the late nineteenth century, a Victorian telescopic standard lamp is a height-adjustable floor-standing light source crafted primarily from solid brass or copper fittings.

These lamps were predominantly constructed using solid cast or spun brass, often featuring weighted iron bases inside the foot, turned adjustment collars, and cast tripod bases.

Authentic period examples display heavy cast metal components, historical thread types, hand-chased decorative elements, and signs of historical conversion from gas or oil to electricity.

Positioning the lamp beside an armchair or within a reading corner adds warm metallic tone and layered accent lighting to contemporary living spaces.

Dust the brass column regularly with a soft dry cloth and avoid abrasive polishes that could strip natural surface patination or protective lacquer.
