Silver Mounted Japanese Shibayama Ivory Vase

Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this large finely detailed ivory vase , the tusk section is decorated on both sides in the shibayama style with the use of multiple semi precious stones and shells, the artist has nicely captured a floral display in a basket on stand to the front elevation and a bird and butterfly amongst flora to the rear,the top and bottom sections are silver mounted and further enhanced with cloisonné enamel decoration, the decorative side handles depict elephant heads.

A very fine multi media Japanese work of art for your collection.

The condition of the ivory is great with no splits to the main body and only a couple of hairlines to the base , the Shibayama is remarkably all complete , the silver and enamel are in good order except I would note an old silver solder repair to the petal flared top, of no significance but pointed out for accuracy.
