Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
It has a moulded cornice above an unusual half round frieze with Regency geometric moulded edge. The two cupboard doors have raised fielded panels and key with working lock along with the original iron 'H' hinges. The interior of the cupboard is very clean and still retains a majority of the original pegs, the remainder being very early replacements. The original oak back boards and base boards are clearly visible. The base contains two oak lined drawers with moulded edges and replacement turned handles. This very attractive cupboard has panelled sides and is of early pegged construction. Its early origins inevitably mean it is full of charm and character as one would expect with a piece well exceeding 300 years in age. It is a lovely warm, rich shade of oak with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
