Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian silver-mounted scent bottles were luxury vanity accessories produced during the nineteenth century to hold perfume or aromatic salts. Often constructed with glass bodies encased in leather and fitted with hallmarked sterling silver caps, these vessels were designed for travel and dressing table display.

Nineteenth-century scent bottles frequently combined hand-blown glass or crystal with outer coverings of exotic leathers, such as crocodile or alligator skin. The caps and collars were formed from sterling silver or electroplated metals, often fitted with internal glass stoppers to prevent evaporation.

Authentic late Victorian silver items feature official British hallmarks stamped into the metal, including the lion passant for sterling purity, a town assay mark, a date letter, and a makers mark. Leather-bound pieces should also exhibit hand-stitched seams and natural age-related patination.

An antique scent bottle can be styled on a marble vanity tray, a bedroom bedside table, or alongside books on an office desk. Combining silver and leather textures with contemporary ceramics or glass creates a balanced, layered arrangement.

Clean the silver cap gently using a soft cotton cloth and silver polish, avoiding contact with the leather portion. The leather casing should be kept away from direct sunlight or moisture and treated periodically with a specialist leather conditioner.
