Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1880s.
It has a shaped moulded cornice above a glazed door with reeded slam strip and key with working lock. The interior of the glazed display compartment contains two fixed shelves with shaped edges. The lower section has a striking flamed mahogany central panel, the door again having a reeded slam strip. The interior of the cupboard has a single fixed shelf. The whole unit has canted corners and stands elegantly on a deep moulded plinth. The interior of the lower section has benefitted from some restorative work making this a very beautiful, usable and stable piece displaying a distinct sense of understated elegance. The mahogany has aged to a lovely warm medium shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
