A Very Unusual 17th Century Green Man Carved Oak Court Cupboard

17th century
Sold by Elmgarden
Description

A Very Unusual 17th Century Green Man Carved Oak Court Cupboard

A Court Cupboard as well preserved as this, is a rare thing to come across, this one is very unusual as to the story related in the Carvings on the front

The top has a front panel and 2 carved doors enclosing a shelved cupboard, the centre panel shows a Hostelry. The other carved panels, including those of the bottom cupboard relate a story which seems to demonize the playing of cards and consumption of strong drink, and in the final carving one of the members of the company can be seen being removed by the Devil in a Very Painful Manor

The lower section has a large shelved cupboard with two carved doors on the front, the cupboard is a very old and made in solid Oak, it has had very little restoration work carried out on it in the past, and it is in good condition for a piece of this age with a small hole at the bottom of the right hand cupboard

The cupboard is 72” high, 58” wide and 24”, this is a Heavy piece it does come into 2 to help with transportation but help will be needed to move it

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
