This George II sterling silver gravy boat is an 18th-century English country house piece made in London in 1743 by Royal Silversmith George Wickes. It is finished in a bright silver colour with a polished reflective surface showing natural reflections from its surroundings. The item stands on three cast shell feet and has a prominent double scroll handle, a curved body, and a flared pouring spout. Measuring 20 cms long, this piece weighs 390 grams and retains good hallmarks along with a period crest on the side. The solid construction and traditional silversmithing details suit placement on a dining room sideboard top for everyday display or serving during meals.

A George II silver gravy boat typically dates from 1727 to 1760, characterised by Rococo influences such as double-scroll handles, flared spouts, and three cast feet.

They were hand-hammered and raised from sterling silver, with individually cast legs and handles soldered onto the main body before hand-engraving decorative crests.

Authentic pieces carry British hallmarks struck on the underside, including the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling purity, the town mark, and the annual date letter.

It can be displayed on a dining room sideboard, used as a refined table centrepiece, or repurposed to hold small botanical arrangements in traditional and eclectic interiors.

Clean regularly using a dedicated silver polishing cloth and mild silver foam to remove tarnish, avoiding dishwasher exposure or abrasive chemical treatments.
