An exceptionally rare Georgian green dram glass, dating to circa 1810.

Dram glasses of this period in coloured glass, particularly green, are exceptionally uncommon. This is only the third example we have handled in over five years. For context, comparative images are provided alongside standard wine glasses to illustrate its diminutive and refined proportions.

Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE REGENCY ERA:
Gilded rim showing light rubbing: gentle wear from handling.
Slice-cut flutes to the lower bowl: cutting style of the period.
Small air seeds in the glass: early hand-blown manufacture.
Conical foot wider than the rim: stable early nineteenth-century proportions.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

A dram glass is a small drinking vessel designed during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries specifically for consuming small measures of spirits such as whisky, gin, or cordials.

Regency glassware was typically hand-blown using heavy lead glass, coloured with metal oxides such as iron or chromium for green hues, and finished with hand-cut facet decorations and gold leaf gilding.

Authentic pieces from this period often display hand-polished pontil scars on the base, slight irregularities from hand-blowing, age-appropriate wear to gilding, and cut facets with subtle variations rather than machine perfection.

Coloured glassware makes an effective accent piece when placed on a sideboard top, curated inside a glass cabinet, or arranged on a bar cart where natural light highlights the deep green tones.

Wash by hand using warm water and mild liquid soap with a soft non-abrasive cloth. Avoid dishwashers, harsh detergents, or scrubbing the gilt rim, as friction can wear away historic gold leaf.
