FAQs

Fahua ware is a historical Chinese ceramic technique originating in the Shanxi province, defined by raised outline tubelining filled with low-temperature polychrome glazes such as turquoise, aubergine, deep blue, and yellow.

These pieces typically consist of a heavy moulded ceramic or earthenware body finished with lead-based glazes, combined with brass or bronze electrical fittings added during conversion to table lighting.

Authentic items display hand-carved or tubelined relief borders, deep reticulation, characteristic glaze crazing, and evidence of historical hand-crafting alongside appropriate patina on later electrical mounts.

Position the lamp on a dark wood sideboard, console table, or desk, pairing it with a simple linen shade to highlight the rich colors and textured openwork relief.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoid harsh chemical cleansers that may compromise vintage glazes, and ensure fluid does not enter metal electrical components.
