This Edwardian sterling silver bookmark originates from the workshop of Adie & Lovekin Ltd in Birmingham 1910. The hallmarked object displays a bright silver colour with a polished finish, incorporating a long pierced blade with geometric cutouts and delicate foliate engraving. An integrated top clip with a leaf-pattern design allows the piece to rest securely over the top of a page. The clean surface shows clear and readable hallmarks with no dents or splits visible on the metal. Measuring 8.5 cm high, 1.2 cm wide, and 0.4 cm deep, the item functions as a practical accessory for everyday reading. Placed upon an office desk or library table, it brings traditional craftsmanship to reading spaces. The design suits gentleman's library environments and serves as a functional tool for marking pages in books and journals.

During the Edwardian period from 1901 to 1910, silversmiths frequently produced small personal desk accessories featuring detailed surface engraving, pierced fretwork, and foliate motifs reflecting the refined aesthetic of the era.

Most authentic examples were stamped or cast from sterling silver, featuring hand-engraved surface patterns, openwork decorative cutouts, and integrated spring clips or flat blades designed to slip over book pages without tearing paper.

Authenticity is typically confirmed by examining silver hallmarks for makers marks, purity stamps such as the lion passant for sterling silver, assay office marks, and date letters corresponding to the period.

Beyond functional use in personal reading materials, these small silver objects are frequently styled on office desks, displayed in shadow boxes, or arranged alongside hardback books on library shelves.

Clean gently using a soft, lint-free cloth and a specialised silver polish, taking care to avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could wear down engraving or delicate fretwork details.
