Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A silver chest is a reinforced wooden trunk designed during the nineteenth century to safely store and transport household silver and tableware. These pieces featured heavy iron brackets, brass plaques, and secure locking mechanisms to protect valuable domestic items.

Victorian silver chests were typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as oak or mahogany, offering strong protection against moisture and impact. The exterior structure was reinforced with black iron corner straps, heavy hinges, and side carrying handles.

Authentic nineteenth-century silver chests display hand-cut dovetail joinery, original iron straps fixed with period screws or rivets, and robust locks. Look for brass presentation plates on the top lid along with natural patination across the timber surfaces.

A solid oak silver chest serves as a functional low coffee table or an accent piece at the foot of a bed. Position the trunk in an entryway or living space to add visual weight, rich wood texture, and practical concealed storage.

Maintain the oak finish by dusting regularly with a microfiber cloth and applying a beeswax polish along the grain annually. Keep iron fittings dry to prevent corrosion and avoid placing the piece near direct heat sources.
