Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A George III secretaire bookcase is a British furniture design originating between 1760 and 1820. It combines a upper glazed cabinet for displaying books with a lower chest of drawers that includes a pull-out or drop-down writing desk.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany and mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcass wood. Construction hallmarks include hand-cut dovetail joints, oak drawer linings, cast brass drop handles, and astragal glazing bars on the cabinet doors.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of hand-craftsmanship, such as irregular hand-sawn wood cuts, period-correct brass hardware with original fixing marks, subtle shrinkage gaps in drawer bases, and original wavy glass in the door panes.

Place the bookcase in a study, dining space, or drawing room against a neutral backdrop to highlight the mahogany grain. Combine the display section with ceramic vessels or art volumes to balance historic architecture with modern decor.

Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent wood movement and veneer cracking. Clean glass panels with a lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish.
