This late Victorian silver-mounted spirit flask dates to 1892 and embodies the refined practicality of a gentleman's library accessory. The piece comprises a rounded rectangular body with a clear glass section, silver mounts, a hinged stopper with a smooth domed cap, and a detachable silver drinking cup at the base. The silver surfaces display a reflective metallic finish, complete with visible London hallmark stamps and maker's marks, alongside small marks, dinks, and minor surface wear from age. Measuring 7 x 3.5 x 15 cm, the item offers compact proportions. In a contemporary home, this spirit flask sits neatly upon a sideboard top or a home bar, bringing period character to a living space or study. The hinged cap locks securely, ensuring functional reliability, while the removable cup provides a practical vessel for pouring a measure of liquor.

A Victorian spirit flask is a portable container designed for carrying personal quantities of spirits, popularised during the nineteenth century for hunting, travelling, and outdoor leisure pursuits.

Victorian spirit flasks were typically manufactured using sterling silver, silver plate, or glass bodies fitted with silver mounts, caps, and detachable drinking cups.

Authentic pieces feature official British assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant for sterling silver, a town mark such as the leopards head for London, a date letter, and a silversmiths initials.

An antique spirit flask can be displayed on a sideboard, bar cart, or bookshelf alongside vintage glassware, decanters, and silver accessories.

Silver components should be cleaned with a soft cloth and specialized silver polish, avoiding full immersion in water to prevent damage to internal cork linings or bayonet mechanisms.
