We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the nineteenth century, paper knives were used to slice through the uncut edges of machine-folded printed books and periodicals, as well as to neatly open sealed postal correspondence.

Victorian letter openers were frequently crafted using sterling silver, tortoiseshell, mother of pearl, horn, and bone, often featuring intricate metal inlay known as pique work.

Authentic pieces generally feature official British assay hallmarks indicating the silver purity, town mark, makers mark, and date letter stamped directly into the silver blade or ferrule.

A vintage or antique paper knife can be displayed on an executive desk, styled inside a shallow leather tray, or arranged atop a stack of hardcover books.

Clean silver sections using a soft microfibre cloth with specialized silver cream, ensuring the cleaning compound does not contact natural organic materials like tortoiseshell, which should only be wiped with a dry cloth.
