Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian barrister bookcase is made from dark brown mahogany with glass and brass elements. The three-tier sectional piece has three glazed up-and-over doors, each fitted with a small circular brass knob on the lower wooden frame. The cabinet stands on four simple square feet and displays horizontal mouldings running across the top and between the modular tiers. Measuring 112 cm high by 87 cm wide and 25 cm deep, this practical storage item fits easily into a study, home office, or living room to hold books and display collections. The compact depth suits narrower hallways or alcoves where traditional shelving takes up too much floor space.

FAQs

A barrister bookcase, also known as a lawyers bookcase, is a modular sectional bookcase featuring individual glazed doors designed to protect valuable legal volumes from dust and allow ease of transport.

These bookcases are traditionally crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring glazed up-and-over doors with brass mechanisms and interlocking wooden stackable tiers.

Authentic period pieces feature makers stamps or labels, internal door-guide scissor mechanisms, original glass with slight surface imperfections, and tongue-and-groove jointing between the stacking sections.

Position the bookcase in a study or living area to house curated volumes, decorative ceramics, or framed photographs, offering dust-free display within a structured, classical framework.

Apply high-grade beeswax to the timber once or twice a year along the grain, clean the glass with a lint-free cloth, and avoid placing the unit in direct sunlight or adjacent to heat sources.
