Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A coffer is a traditional wooden storage chest constructed with joined timber panels and heavy oak during the 17th century. These pieces served as foundational storage for household linens, textiles, and valuables in early European homes.

Coffers from this period were crafted using mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden pegs rather than metal screws or modern adhesives. They feature hand-planed oak panels, hand-carved decorative friezes, and hand-forged iron hinges.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-tooling, such as irregular peg insertion, hand-turned carved details, and natural shrinkage across the grain over centuries. genuine age patina inside carved recesses and historic ironwork or repairs around hinges help confirm age.

Position the coffer at the foot of a bed, below a window, or along an entrance hallway to create a focal point that adds historic depth to modern or rustic schemes. Pair the piece with neutral textiles, modern artwork, or simple ceramics to highlight the textured dark wood grain.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice per year along the direction of the grain. Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent warping or splitting of the oak panels.
