This Georgian secretaire bookcase stands as a late George III mahogany example from the 18th century, finished in warm brown tones with flame mahogany veneer. The upper section displays a swan-neck pediment and astragal-glazed doors opening to adjustable mahogany shelves, while the lower cabinet contains a secretaire drawer fitted with a tooled green leather writing surface, pigeonholes, and small drawers above two panelled doors with three sliding shelves. Additional visible details include brass lion mask handles on the long drawer, applied mouldings, and bracket feet. The piece measures 252 cm high, 110 cm wide, and 60 cm deep. Such a substantial storage item suits a gentleman's library, a formal study, or a spacious drawing room for book display and desk work. The tall cabinet organises papers, books, and household linens behind secure panelled doors.

A secretaire bookcase is a tall piece of case furniture originating in the 18th century that combines a fall-front or pull-out writing desk with an upper glazed cupboard designed for storing and displaying books.

Eighteenth-century examples were predominantly constructed using solid and veneered mahogany, with secondary woods such as oak or pine for drawer linings, alongside hand-blown glass panes and cast brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, original glass with subtle surface irregularities, hand-forged iron or brass fixings, and natural shrinkage marks in the timber along drawer bases and back panels.

A secretaire bookcase serves as a functional focal point in a study or living area, offering concealed workspace for modern electronics while display shelves accommodate curated books or ceramics.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dust regularly with a soft cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the finish.
