This Art Nouveau period vase by Wilhelm Kralik Söhne dates from 1902 and combines iridescent glass with a sterling silver collar by John Grinsell & Sons. The lobed gourd form consists of three stacked bulbous sections that increase in size toward the base, rendered in a gradient of burgundy, pink, and silver with a swirled feather pattern. The polished metal rim bears clear Birmingham hallmarks, completing the top opening. Measuring 16.6 cm high by 9 cm wide and 9 cm deep, the vessel possesses a smooth, glossy finish throughout. Placement suits a mantelpiece where the reflective surface catches the light. The compact proportions allow for display on narrow shelves, side tables, or cabinets within living areas. The open top accommodates small floral arrangements while remaining functional as an ornamental piece.

Art Nouveau iridescent glassware, prominent in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, is characterised by organic forms and metallic surface lustres achieved through spraying or exposing hot glass to metallic chloride vapors.

Glassmakers crafted the mouth-blown vessel before silversmiths shaped a custom sterling silver collar or rim, which was then fitted over the glass neck and stamped with hallmarks to signify metal purity.

Authentic Kralik glass often features distinctive combed, veined, or feathered iridescent patterns, smooth ground pontil marks on the base, and period-correct glass weight without modern synthetic surface coatings.

Position the vase where indirect natural light catches the iridescent surface, such as on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or deep window sill, pairing it with neutral decorative items to highlight its colour gradients.

Clean glass surfaces gently using a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners or full submersion in water to prevent moisture from settling beneath the silver mount or tarnishing the metal.
