This Edwardian mahogany and satinwood inlaid secretaire bookcase stands 229 cm high, 93 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, bringing classic refinement to a study, library, or living room. The warm brown timber is decorated with extensive satinwood floral marquetry, classical urn motifs, and fine line inlay. At the top sits a detachable swan-neck pediment with a central urn finial, above double glazed doors with astragal glazing bars and light blue fabric backing. Three small inlaid drawers with small brass ring handles sit beneath the upper display section, positioned above a pull-out secretaire drawer with decorative brass drop handles and intricate swags. The lower cabinet features two panelled cupboard doors with central urn marquetry, opening to interior storage space, all supported by splay bracket feet and a wavy apron at the base.

An Edwardian secretaire bookcase is a multi-functional piece of furniture crafted during the early 20th century, combining an upper glazed bookcase with a lower cupboard and a fold-out or pull-out writing desk drawer.

Edwardian cabinetmakers predominantly utilized dense mahogany, rosewood, or satinwood frames, often decorated with delicate satinwood, boxwood, or ebony marquetry inlays and fitted with cast brass hardware.

Authentic Edwardian pieces feature classical revival elements, refined floral or urn marquetry, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original astragal glazing patterns, and natural wear patterns on working surfaces.

Place the unit in a study or living area as a functional workstation, using the glazed upper section to display curated books or ceramics alongside modern neutral decor.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply a beeswax polish sparingly along the grain twice a year, and keep the wood positioned away from direct sunlight and central heating sources.
