This late Victorian collectors cabinet dates from the period 1890 to 1900 and is constructed in golden brown satinwood with harewood and satinwood cross-banded details. The rectangular top sits above a frieze decorated with floral and harebell marquetry inlay, which is repeated on the sides and ends. Two glazed doors feature Gothic tracery glazing and Prince of Wales feathers carved details, opening to reveal five mahogany sliding trays and a single interior shelf. The cabinet stands on splayed feet with inset brass castors and bears a plaque from the Lady Ludlow Collection. Measuring 64 cm wide by 91 cm high by 38 cm deep, this piece serves as a compact storage unit for a study or drawing room. In a modern interior, this functional antique cabinet fits well in a gentleman's library, hallway, or living space as a display and storage piece for small collections or books. The glazed doors allow contents to be viewed while protected from dust, and the internal sliding trays and shelf provide practical organisation. The restrained proportions make the cabinet suitable for smaller rooms where floor space is limited, while the quality timber veneers and inlaid decoration coordinate with traditional or eclectic interior schemes.

A Victorian collectors cabinet is a specialised piece of furniture designed during the nineteenth century to store, organise, and display small objects, specimens, or curiosities behind glazed doors or within fitted drawers.

These pieces frequently utilise timbers such as satinwood, mahogany, or rosewood, ornamented with marquetry inlays made from contrasting woods, accompanying glazed doors with wooden tracery.

Authentic late Victorian pieces display hand-carved details, dovetail drawer construction, original brass hardware, and natural surface wear or fine crazing in the varnish indicative of age.

Position the cabinet in a study, hallway, or living area as an accent piece, filling the interior shelves with books, ceramics, or curated objects to complement modern decor.

Keep the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage or veneer lifting, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying high-grade beeswax annually.
