This pair of 18th century George III ladles is made of sterling silver in the Onslow pattern and dates to 1771. Each ladle measures 18 cm in length, with a combined weight of 116 grams. The pieces have curved handles featuring Onslow scroll terminals and fluted shell bowls, and they are housed in a fitted presentation case lined with purple fabric. Additional visible details include the leatherette exterior of the case, clear hallmarks on the silver, and the distinct curvature of the handles. They find a suitable home on a sideboard top within an English Country House interior setting. The ladles are appropriate for display within their case or for presentation during formal dining occasions. The set combines traditional Georgian silverware craftsmanship with a functional serving design.

Originating in the 18th century during the Georgian period, the Onslow pattern is distinguished by a turned-down handle ending in a cast, ribbed scroll resembling a turned feather or paper scroll.

Georgian silver ladles were typically hand-hammered or cast from solid sterling silver (925 fineness), often featuring hand-chased or repousse shell bowls and hallmarked by London silversmiths.

Authentic George III silver features standard British hallmarks, including the monarchs profile duty mark, the leopards head for London, the lion passant for sterling quality, and a makers mark.

Cased antique silver can be displayed open on a dining sideboard or dressers as decorative tableware, or integrated into formal table settings for serving sauces and gravies.

Preserve antique silver by polishing gently with a soft microfibre cloth and a specialised silver cream, avoiding harsh abrasive chemicals or automated dishwashers.
