This Edwardian pair of open salt cellars originates from the period 1908 to 1910 in an Art Nouveau style. The pieces are fabricated from sterling silver with gilded interiors, accompanied by matching salt spoons, and rest inside a fitted presentation case upholstered in purple velvet with a satin-lined lid bearing a gold-stamped silversmiths label. Notable details include circular bowls with sinuous wirework borders, heart-shaped lug handles, and Onslow pattern spoons. The case features a dark textured exterior, an internal metal latch, and a hinged lid lined in gathered satin fabric. Each salt cellar measures 2 cm high, 5 cm wide, and 7 cm deep. In a modern home, this cased set serves as a decorative display piece on a dining room sideboard top or within a cabinet collection. The salt cellars and matching spoons provide an authentic touch for traditional table settings or period collections.

Art Nouveau silver salt cellars are small dining accessories produced around the turn of the 20th century, characterised by organic forms, sinuous lines, and flowing handle motifs typical of the movement.

Edwardian salt cellars were typically crafted from hallmarked sterling silver, frequently featuring gilding on the interior bowl to protect the precious metal from salt corrosion.

Look for official hallmarks stamped into the silver, including the city assay mark, standard mark, date letter, and makers mark, alongside characteristic design elements like whiplash curves.

Position them on a formal dining table during special gatherings, or display them open within an antique cabinet or on a sideboard alongside other heritage silverware.

Wipe salt remnants away immediately after use to prevent corrosion, clean gently with a dedicated silver polishing cloth, and store the pieces inside their fitted presentation case when not in use.
