Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

This 1900 Art Nouveau combination matchbox holder and candlestick is cast in solid brass with a warm gold finish. The piece takes the form of a waterlily, comprising a leaf-shaped base tray, an upright matchbox holder with folded petal corners and visible soldered joins inside, a whiplash curved stem, and a tulip-form candle sconce atop a flat saucer tray. Surface marks, natural tarnishing, and slight verdigris near the joints show honest age and use. Standing 150mm high, the candlestick measures a compact size suited for placement on an office desk in a gentleman's library. It functions practically to hold matches and a small taper candle, serving as a decorative desk accessory for everyday use in a study or writing room.

Art Nouveau metalwork is defined by organic, flowing lines inspired by natural forms such as plants, flowers, and vines. Popularised between 1890 and 1910, pieces frequently incorporate whiplash curves, stylised floral sconces, and leaf-shaped bases that blend decorative motifs with structural components.

Chambersticks from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries were predominantly manufactured from cast or stamped sheet brass, bronze, copper, and silver plate. Components were assembled using traditional solder techniques or threaded rods, with hand-finishing applied to polish or highlight relief details.

Authentic period pieces exhibit uneven surface oxidisation in crevice areas, minor hand-tooling or casting imperfections, and signs of gentle wear on contact surfaces like bases and candle wells. Later reproductions often feature uniform machine stamping, modern Phillips-head screws, or uncharacteristically crisp casting seams.

Antique brass accessories serve as warm focal points when positioned alongside contemporary minimalist decor, dark wood surfaces, or stacked books. Combining patinated brass objects with neutral textiles or modern ceramics creates balanced texture and depth within modern living spaces.

To preserve aged brass, dust regularly with a clean microfiber cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners that strip natural patina. Wax residue should be dissolved using warm water and a soft non-abrasive cloth, followed by thorough drying to prevent spot oxidation.
