These two table lamps belong to the early Gothic style from the 1920 period. Made of cast brass and fabric, the set displays a metallic brass colour alongside cream shades. Each item includes a knopped stem, a pierced leaf base, a pleated shade, and foliate ornamentation on the column. The surface holds a lacquered finish and the wiring uses old style fabric cable, with no missing pieces in the very good original used condition. They measure 55 cm high, 34 cm wide, and 34 cm deep. Suitable for placement on a sideboard top, the pair provides functional illumination for living rooms, hallways, or studies. The compact footprint permits straightforward positioning on side furniture while the neutral palette coordinates with various interior schemes. The metal construction wipes clean easily, and the lack of polish requirements simplifies ongoing maintenance in a domestic setting.

FAQs

Early Gothic Revival lighting features design elements drawn from medieval church architecture, incorporating knopped stems, foliate ornamentation, and trefoil bases into domestic brassware.

Manufacturers primarily utilised solid cast brass or bronze, constructed with hand-chased metal details and paired with silk or pleated fabric shades.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display substantial metal weight, hand-finished casting seams, natural surface patination, and historic socket fittings along the central column.

Position these lamps symmetrically on a dark wood sideboard, console table, or desk to provide architectural height and ambient lighting within traditional or eclectic schemes.

Dust the brass stems regularly with a soft dry cloth and brush the fabric shades lightly, avoiding abrasive polishes that remove protective lacquers or natural patination.
