Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian tea set from 1900 consists of three silver-plated pieces: a teapot, a cream jug, and a sugar bowl. The set is displayed on a polished brown wood surface with distinct swirling grain patterns. Each vessel features a lobed body with fluted rims, reflecting a classic English Country house aesthetic. The teapot includes a dark wooden handle, a lid with a carved floral-shaped finial, and a curved spout, while the matching sugar bowl and milk jug are fitted with dual handles. The silver-plated finish shows reflective surfaces and gentle signs of age. The teapot measures 16 cm high by 27 cm wide and 13 cm deep, accompanied by a milk jug measuring 10 cm high by 13.5 cm wide and 7.5 cm deep, and a sugar bowl measuring 10 cm high by 18 cm wide and 9 cm deep. This service fits naturally on a dining room sideboard top or a living room side table for serving tea during gatherings or afternoon tea at home.

FAQs

Edwardian tea services from the early 20th century often feature refined neoclassical revival, Georgian revival, or simple fluted and lobed forms. They were produced using electroplating techniques onto base metals such as nickel silver or Britannia metal.

These sets consist of a base metal, frequently electroplated nickel silver (EPNS), coated with a layer of pure silver. Handles and lid finials were often crafted from carved ebony, stained hardwood, or bakelite to insulate the user from heat.

Authentic pieces carry makers marks or stamps such as EPNS (Electroplated Nickel Silver) alongside specific manufacturer hallmarks. Design elements like clean fluted body shapes, carved wooden heat-insulated handles, and period-correct construction methods also assist in identification.

A silver tea service can be styled on a dining room sideboard, wooden coffee table, or kitchen display shelf. Placing the pieces on a polished wooden or mirrored tray balances classic metallic finishes with modern background textures.

Clean silver plate using a soft cloth and a specialised, non-abrasive silver polish to prevent wearing down the thin layer of silver plating. Avoid harsh chemicals or immersion in water, particularly for pieces with wooden handles or finials.
