This Edwardian trinket box belongs to the period of 1910 and takes the form of an English solid sterling silver container with a hinged lid. The design incorporates a polished blue and yellow banded agate stone mounted on the arched top, a matching base inset, and a plain polished silver body with a visible hinge joining the base and cover. The surface exhibits light surface wear and minor tarnishing across the silver components, while the natural stone shows variations in blue, green, and yellow tones. The size of the item is approximately 4 cm across by 3 cm front to back and 3 cm tall. Suitable for placement on an office desk in a gentleman's library, the piece functions practically for holding small items such as stamps, cufflinks, or pins. The construction utilizes sterling silver alongside the decorative agate stone, presenting a compact form suited for everyday desktop use. The hallmarked silver body secures contents within a sturdy compartment, maintaining the original layout typical of early twentieth-century portable containers intended for desk organization.

In the early 20th century, small silver boxes set with semi-precious stones like agate were commonly used as trinket boxes, pill boxes, or snuff containers, serving both practical personal storage needs and as decorative vanity accessories.

These items typically feature high-grade sterling silver, hallmarked by regional British assay offices like Chester or Birmingham, paired with hand-cut and polished natural hardstones such as agate, jasper, or onyx.

Authentic British silver pieces feature a full set of official hallmarks, including the makers mark, fineness mark such as the lion passant for sterling silver, the assay office mark, and a date letter.

A small silver and stone box functions well as a decorative accent on a bedside table, desk, or dressing tray, bringing tactile texture and historical patina to modern tabletop vignettes.

Clean the silver gently using a soft silver polishing cloth, avoiding harsh liquid chemical dip cleaners that could penetrate the setting or damage the mounted gemstone and its mount.
