Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A matched pair of late 19th-century Victorian Aesthetic Movement earthenware candlesticks takes the form of classical Ionic columns. Each ceramic piece is finished in a vibrant turquoise blue glaze with dark high-contrast shading in the recessed flutes and mouldings. The architectural design incorporates detailed Ionic capitals with spiral volutes, fluted columns, and tiered circular bases decorated with radiating vertical fluting. Impressed shape number 1254 marks the bases of the candlesticks. The candlesticks stand at heights of 24 cm and 25 cm respectively. These decorative objects suit placement on a mantelpiece within a maximalist interior, bringing distinct classical architectural character and strong colour to a room.

FAQs

Burmantofts Faience refers to architectural terracotta and decorative earthenware glazed pottery manufactured in Leeds, England, predominantly during the late 19th century.

These pieces were typically press-moulded from refined earthenware clay body before being finished with translucent monochrome glazes that pooled in structural recesses.

Authentic items feature impressed backmarks on the unglazed underside, such as the BF monogram, the full name BURMANTOFTS FAIENCE, or numeric shape codes.

Position bright glaze ceramic candle holders as a symmetrical pair on a mantelpiece or sideboard to create a focal point with vivid colour contrast.

Clean gently with a soft cloth dampened in lukewarm water and neutral soap, avoiding prolonged immersion or aggressive chemical cleaners that can damage crazed glaze surfaces.
