Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Corinthian capitals and fluted columns: Classical Revival design popular in the early twentieth century.
Stamped EP mark on the plinth: factory electroplating on base metal.
Stepped square plinth bases: heavy, stable design standard for period table lamps.
Soft surface wear and light polishing marks: natural evidence of regular domestic cleaning.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These 1920 Neoclassical table lamps bring a grand Regency aesthetic to a home interior. Each piece consists of a silver plated metal column with a detailed Corinthian capital at the top, a fluted shaft, and a stepped square plinth base at the bottom. The finish is polished silver, and the set includes matching white fabric shades with pleated sides and hanging beaded trim along the lower edges. Visible details include crisp mouldings on the tiered bases, vertical fluting along the columns, and distinct floral leaf carvings on the capitals. Standing 58 cm tall with a 15 cm square base, these balanced matching lamps suit placement on a living room sideboard top, a hallway console table, or a pair of bedroom bedside cabinets. They provide both ambient lighting and architectural presence in a traditional or transitional interior setting.

FAQs

Neoclassical column table lamps emerged in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, taking inspiration from classical Greek and Roman architecture. During the Victorian and Edwardian eras, manufacturers adapted Corinthian and Ionic architectural columns into electric and oil lamp bases, often rendered in silver plate or brass to reflect classic revival tastes.

Traditional column table lamps are constructed from electroplated nickel silver (EPNS), solid brass, or cast iron base metal with a silver finish. They frequently feature weighted stepped plinths for stability, detailed capital tops, and fabric shades made from silk or pleated cotton.

Authentic silver-plated lamps generally feature makers marks or hallmarks near the base rim, such as EPNS or manufacturer initials. Look for signs of age including natural patination, subtle copper or brass bleed where the silver plating has thinned over time, and solid cast construction rather than lightweight modern reproductions.

Place a matching pair symmetrically on a dining room sideboard, hall console table, or wide bedroom dressers to establish balanced proportions. The metallic silver finish integrates effectively against both deep wall paint shades and neutral modern backdrops.

Clean the silver-plated surfaces using a soft, non-abrasive microfibre cloth designed specifically for silver, avoiding harsh chemical cleansers or abrasive polishes that can strip the plated layer. Dust fabric shades with a soft brush or vacuum attachment on low suction.
