Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large Victorian decanter combines a clear glass body with sterling silver elements, presenting a polished silver and clear colour scheme. The vessel includes a fluted glass body etched with floral pattern glass motifs, topped by a hinged lid with a finial, and is completed with an S-scroll handle. It stands 27 cm high, 15 cm wide, and 12 cm deep. The piece rests on a polished silver base, accompanied by a sterling silver collar that matches the upper hardware. The decanter is well-suited for display on a sideboard top within a gentleman's library setting or similar formal interior space for serving beverages.

FAQs

Popularised during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, silver-mounted claret jugs were designed to serve wine while preventing sediment from entering the glass, featuring a combination of fine glasswork and decorative sterling silver mounts.

These vessels traditionally combine hand-blown or cut lead crystal glass with hallmarked sterling silver or silver-plated collars, handles, spouts, and hinged lids.

Authentic pieces generally feature full British hallmarks stamped on the silver collar, handle, or lid, indicating the makers mark, purity grade, assay office, and date letter.

Displaying the piece on a dining room sideboard, a drinks trolley, or a styled bar cabinet adds historical craftsmanship and a reflective metallic accent to contemporary spaces.

Clean the glass interior using warm water and specialised decanter cleaning beads, while polishing the silver exterior with a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver polish to protect the hallmarks and glass joins.
