Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This set of four matching antique wall lights dates from the early 20th century in a traditional English style. Each piece is formed of faded gold-coloured brass with a tapering turned baluster backplate and twin scroll arms issuing circular bobeche drip pans holding candle drip sleeves with white bulbs. The visible design includes delicate cast ornamentation on the backplate mounts, smooth curved arm joints, and subtle original patination across the metallic surfaces. Each individual fixture measures 31 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 23 cm deep. In a modern home interior, these sconces function effectively in pairs or as a matched quartet to illuminate hallways, drawing rooms, or narrow wall spaces alongside architectural features.

FAQs

Traditional English brass wall sconces typically feature cast brass construction, central turned backplates, and sweeping scrollwork arms designed to support candle sockets or electric light fittings.

Historical wall lights were primarily constructed from solid cast brass or bronze, often finished with natural patination, lacquered coatings, and cream or white candle-sleeve covers over the wiring.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand-casting, natural oxidisation in crevices, threaded cast components, and weight variations distinct from modern lightweight reproductions.

Pairing brass sconces with dark painted walls, flanking a central mirror, or placing them along hallways creates a balanced contrast between historic metalwork and modern colour palettes.

Clean gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove dust. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that strip away age-acquired patina and protective lacquer coats.
