This Victorian solid sterling silver table cigar lighter takes the form of a hunting horn, finished in bright silver with a flared rim base and a removable burner wick top with a protruding central wick holder. British hallmarks appear near the base on the conical body, which rises to a narrow, turned vertical stem and terminates in a flat circular top. It measures approximately 15.2 cm tall by 4.6 cm wide. Designed in the gentleman's library style, this piece functions historically to light cigars after dinner and suits placement on an office desk today. The solid silver construction presents a smooth, reflective surface with a flared silhouette echoing traditional hunting horns.

FAQs

During the late 19th century, silversmiths designed decorative table lighters shaped like everyday objects, such as hunting horns or street lamps, for use in smoking rooms and gentlemans clubs.

High-end late Victorian table lighters were crafted from sterling silver, featuring a hollow base to hold lighting fuel and an internal cotton wick assembly.

Authentic British silver pieces feature a set of official hallmarks stamped into the metal, including the lion passant for sterling purity, an assay office mark, a date letter, and a makers mark.

These decorative objects are frequently placed on modern office desks, polished wooden sideboards, or styled alongside books on a library shelf as thematic accents.

Clean gently with a soft cotton cloth and specialized silver polish to remove tarnish, avoiding abrasive creams or harsh immersion chemicals that can strip historical patination.
