Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver-lidded glass jars and boxes became popular vanity accessories in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Produced during the Victorian, Edwardian, and George V eras, they were typically crafted by silversmiths who mounted hallmarked sterling silver caps onto Bohemian or English blown glass bodies to store pins, cosmetics, or jewellery on dressing tables.

These items traditionally combine a sterling silver lid or collar with a moulded or blown glass base. Glass technique styles often featured iridescence, cut patterns, or coloured glass produced by renowned European glassworks, while the silver lids were struck with official assay office hallmarks.

Authenticity is verified through official British hallmarks stamped on the silver rim or lid, which include the makers mark, town mark (such as the Birmingham anchor), lion passant standard mark, and date letter. Additionally, period glass displays characteristic hand-finished details, weight, or pontil marks on the base.

Position the piece on a bedroom dressing table, marble bathroom counter, or bedside table to store rings, earrings, or small everyday items. The metallic finish and iridescent glass catch light, making it a functional decorative accent on tray arrangements or open shelving.

Clean the silver lid gently using a soft silver polishing cloth to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that could seep into glass seams. The glass base should be wiped with a soft, damp microfibre cloth and mild soapy water, avoiding abrasive pads that could scratch delicate surface finishes or iridescence.
