We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A sovereign case is a small, portable container crafted in the 19th and early 20th centuries specifically designed to hold gold sovereign coins. Often made from sterling silver, these spring-loaded cases protected valuable coinage and were typically attached to an Albert watch chain.

Sovereign cases were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, nickel, brass, or solid gold. The interiors generally contained steel springs and brass or silver coin-plates designed to keep the coins securely stacked.

Authentic British pieces feature official assay hallmarks, including a lion passant for sterling silver, an assay town mark such as Birmingham or London, a makers mark, and a specific date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

Modern collectors often wear sovereign cases as unique pendant necklaces on contemporary silver chains or attach them to vintage watch chains as decorative fobs. They can also be displayed in glass dome cases alongside pocket watches and antique curios.

Gently wipe the silver exterior with a soft silversmiths polishing cloth to remove tarnish and finger oils. Avoid submerging the item in liquid cleaning solutions, as moisture can rust the internal steel spring mechanisms.
