We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the nineteenth century, domestic candle lighting relied heavily on brass holders manufactured through casting techniques. These items were widely produced in industrial centres such as Birmingham, serving as functional household objects prior to the widespread adoption of gas and electric lighting.

Traditional candlesticks were made from brass, an alloy composed primarily of copper and zinc. They were typically constructed by sand-casting two hollow vertical halves, which were then brazed together, or by turning solid cast components on a lathe before attachment to a weighted base.

Authentic period pieces often feature subtle casting seams along the interior or exterior of the stem, irregular hand-turned lathe marks, and a heavier weight distribution near the base. Natural surface wear, minor indentation, and oxidisation in crevices also indicate genuine age.

Brass candlesticks can be arranged in asymmetrical groupings on a fireplace mantelpiece, integrated into a dining table centerpiece, or placed on a sideboard alongside ceramic vessels to provide warm metallic contrast against neutral backgrounds.

Removal of residual wax should be conducted using warm water and a soft microfibre cloth rather than sharp metal tools. To preserve historical patination, mild soap solutions are preferred over abrasive chemical polishes.
