This unusual sterling silver tea caddy or trinket box dates from 1910 in the Art Deco style, finished in a bright silver colour with a polished band around the shoulder and a woven engine-turned texture covering the rounded baluster-shaped body and domed lid. The circular lid includes a plain central circle on top, while the lower body displays stamped British hallmarks alongside the textured pattern. It measures 8.2 cm high, 8.2 cm wide, and 8.2 cm deep. In a modern interior, this piece sits on a sideboard top to store loose tea leaves or small trinkets. The compact container functions as a decorative tabletop accessory while holding small everyday items within reach.

Silver tea caddies were introduced in Europe during the seventeenth century to securely store and preserve expensive imported tea leaves. Over time, these containers evolved into decorative table accessories and versatile storage vessels for small personal items.

Traditional caddies were raised from solid sterling silver or silver plate, often featuring hand-chased, engraved, or engine-turned patterns. Lids were carefully fitted with friction seals or hinges to ensure an airtight closure.

Authentic British sterling silver features official hallmarks stamped into the metal, indicating the makers mark, the purity mark such as the lion passant, the assay office mark, and a date letter.

A textured silver jar can be displayed on a sideboard, dressing table, or desk as a refined storage solution for jewellery or desk accessories. It contrasts effectively alongside natural wood, dark marble, or contemporary glass surfaces.

To clean sterling silver, use a soft cotton cloth and a gentle silver polish formulated to remove oxidisation without scratching the surface. Regular light dusting and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners will preserve the original finish.
