Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th century French Provincial glazed cupboard follows a two-tier format in painted wood with glass panes and brass hardware. The structure has a weathered grey finish, chamfered vertical edges, a central drawer, panelled lower cabinet doors, and an ornate carved scroll pediment above. Small round brass knobs sit on the upper glazed doors and the lower cabinet doors, while the single central drawer uses two drop handles flanking a decorative escutcheon. Practical dimensions measure 234 cm high by 100 cm wide and 49 cm deep. Such a cabinet works well in a kitchen, dining room, or hallway to store tableware, linens, or glassware while adding rustic French chateau character to an interior.

FAQs

19th-century French provincial glazed cupboards typically feature a two-tier design with glass-fronted upper doors and solid panelled lower doors. They often incorporate decorative pediments, hand-carved floral or scroll motifs, and painted or distressed wood finishes that reflect regional artisan craftsmanship.

These cupboards were predominantly constructed using locally sourced hardwoods and softwoods such as oak, pine, or fruitwood. The cabinetry features hand-fitted glass panes, wooden joinery, and wrought iron or cast brass hardware including escutcheons and drop handles.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-tooling, such as hand-sawn backing boards, pegged mortise and tenon joints, and slight irregularities in the glass panes. Original painted surfaces often exhibit natural age-related wear, crazing, and layering over soft timber bases.

A glazed cupboard serves as functional storage in a dining room, kitchen, or living area. Display neutral ceramics, glassware, or folded linens behind the glass doors to complement modern minimalist or modern country interior schemes without cluttering the visual space.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive sprays on painted surfaces to preserve the aged finish, and clean glass panels using a mild glass cleaner applied directly to a cloth rather than the frame.
