Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These Aesthetic Movement wall sconces date from circa 1880 in the manner of Bruce Talbert. Each piece comprises a rectangular brass back plate with a moulded border, finished in a bright gold colour. The back plates display a repousse floral relief decoration featuring stylised sunflowers and fruit patterns across the entire surface. Suspended from hooks attached to the top loops, each sconce incorporates twin adjustable and removable candle branches mounted near the base, complete with turned circular drip pans and cylindrical socket holders. The back plates measure 36 cm in height by 20 cm in width. In a modern home, these items suit narrow wall spaces in a hallway, dining room or living room, providing atmospheric candle lighting.

FAQs

Aesthetic Movement brassware from the late 19th century emphasises stylized natural forms, Japanese artistic influences, and decorative surface ornamentation such as sunflowers and stylized flora, prioritizing visual beauty and craftsmanship.

These sconces were constructed from sheet and cast brass, utilizing repousse, embossing, and chasing techniques to create detailed relief patterns on the backplates alongside fitted cast brass candle branches.

Authentic period pieces feature Victorian construction characteristics, crisp hand-worked or stamped relief details, natural oxidisation in recessed areas, and occasional registration marks or designer attributions.

Mount these decorative fixtures flanking a central mirror, artwork, or fireplace breast in a dining room or hallway to add architectural texture and warm metallic accents.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical polishes that strip historical patina; applying a light coat of microcrystalline wax helps protect the metal from excessive tarnishing.
