Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Named after the Duke of Wellington, a Wellington chest is a tall, narrow chest of drawers secured by a hinged side flap. A secretaire version incorporates a drop-front drawer fitted with small internal drawers and pigeonholes for writing.

Nineteenth-century examples were typically crafted from solid timbers and fine veneers such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. Internal drawers frequently feature hand-cut dovetail joints and brass fittings, with writing drawers often lined in leather.

Authentic pieces feature a distinctive hinged vertical locking flap on one side that secures all drawers simultaneously when locked. Look for hand-cut dovetails, original brass hardware, and a drop-front drawer containing fitted pigeonholes.

Its tall, narrow footprint makes it suitable for compact spaces such as home offices, hallways, or living room alcoves. Pair the warm timber with neutral wall tones and modern lighting to accentuate the craftsmanship.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage or finish fading. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically with a microfibre cloth following the natural grain.
