Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in classical antiquity, the cornucopia or horn of plenty became a prominent decorative motif during the Regency and Empire periods. Vases shaped as cornucopias, often constructed from glass mounted in gilt bronze or brass with stone bases, were produced to hold flowers or stand as decorative garnitures on mantelpieces and sideboards.

These decorative items were typically constructed from hand-blown or cut lead glass paired with chased ormolu or gilt bronze mounts. The mounts were frequently affixed to polished dark slate or marble bases to provide stability and visual contrast.

Authentic 19th-century examples display fire gilding on the cast metal mounts, showing natural wear on raised edges, alongside hand-chased detailing such as animal heads or acanthus leaves. The glass components usually exhibit hand-blown features, mild inclusions, and custom fluting fitted directly into the metal sockets.

A pair of cornucopia vases creates symmetrical balance when positioned at opposite ends of a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table. They can be displayed unadorned as sculptural art pieces or styled with foliage to complement both traditional and eclectic contemporary schemes.

Clean glass sections using a damp, lint-free microfibre cloth, taking care not to submerge or wet the gilt metalwork. Dust gilt bronze mounts gently with a soft dry brush, avoiding chemical polish, abrasive cleaners, or water, which can strip historic gilding or alter patinated finishes.
